7 NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS FOR ME

December 31, 2017

Every beginning of a year, I get that burning desire to become a better person whether it is in love, work, or life.

There is an amazing exhilaration in welcoming a new year – in which it means a new self. Next year, I am looking forward to grow and experience new things – so I make these 7 new year resolutions. I’m sharing this to you just in case you’d like to follow them too – because I bet you do.

BE MORE GENEROUS WITH PRAISE

I don’t know whether I am culturally built that way – but I have noticed that sometimes I hold back on giving people praise. So in 2018, I want to be more generous with praise. I think it’d be much better for me both personally and professionally. It means I’d tell someone when they do good work or anything positive. It can be as simple as saying how good they look today, or how they have shown improvements – no matter how small it is.

EXPERIENCE LIFE

In 2018, I want to experience life more. It means I want to invest in experience rather than stuffs (or if possible, both). I realize that living in Jakarta, there are only so many things to explore, but maybe I’d like to start from trying new food and attend new events (non-fashion related) for the sake of trying new things.

SAY YES BECAUSE I’M SCARED

There are so many things I have said no to because I’m scared – and I want to do differently this year. Related to experiencing life (previous point), I want to say yes because it is something that I’m scared to do. I want to say yes to bigger and more challenging projects. I want to say yes to real experience – and maybe I’ll start with getting a diving license.

INVEST IN IDEAS

While I am still in my 20s and my family is just me and Kalvin for now, I want to explore as many ideas as possible and actually invest in them. Like trying new projects, new collaborations, and new possibilities. Again, it might be scary, but I’m saying yes.

STOP SAYING MAYBE WHEN I WANT TO SAY NO

Seriously, I don’t know how many times I’m saying maybe when all I want is to say no. Sometimes I think ‘maybe’ is safer, but I realize that it is not good for me personally, and for the person I’m saying ‘maybe’ to. In 2018, I want to be more decisive – and braver when it comes to saying no.
