TURNING YOUR PASSION INTO A CAREER

November 19, 2017

Call me naive, but I am one of those people who believe that life is about pursuing passion. I am one of those people who’d say something like, “Life is too short to work on something dreadful and draining.” Most people I met show up for work day after day just because they are supposed to, and therefore, are not able to contribute to their full potential because they are lack of passion.

I couldn’t say that my life is perfect and I am living my dream life (yet), but I can safely say that I am walking towards my dream. So maybe, I can share my steps I took to turn my passion into business.

DISCOVER YOUR PASSION

For sure, if you want to do something you are passionate about, you should know what your passion is. It is something you enjoy and naturally wired to excel. It is important to note that there is a huge difference between a hobby and a passion. For instance, just because you enjoy watching movie does not necessarily mean you should be a movie director. You might be better at script writing. So all you need to do is to keep an open mind and explore all of your options.

DETERMINE YOUR MARKET

After knowing which direction you should go, you can determine the market that matches your skill within the chosen field. It is definitely risky to jump into a career with a low demand or a high demand with large number of competitors. But the number of competitors should never stop you from pursuing what you love. As long as you have a strong market strategy and you are confident in your skill, you are off to a good start.

DO YOUR RESEARCH

Research is one of the most important parts of changing your career. In this case, you may need to do some research of the requirement – either the equipment, certification, degree, or special training – in order to boost your credentials within the market.

BE YOUR BEST SELF

To be a professional, you should be your best self – and become qualified. Having a passion, skill, and talent may not be enough to deem you an expert. That’s why it is important to feed yourself with specific knowledge and learn anything you can.

BE FLEXIBLE

Like anything else in life, it won’t always be a smooth path – so be prepared for hiccups and be ready to make adjustments along the way. It is totally fine to redirect your passion to a slightly different direction if needed and explore everything at your best pace.
