Vacation in Maldives is definitely (almost) everyone’s dream. Crystal clear sea, blue sky, white sand, luxurious hotels, and exciting water sports are waving their hands.
When I was called for a project in Maldives (in which will be revealed soon), I was ecstatic. I spent the whole weekend there, had so much fun (took a lot of great pictures as well). So today I’d like to share some important tips for Maldives trip.
AVOID STAYING TOO LONG IN MALDIVES
Maldives is great – but unless you are into specific activities that are only available in Maldives, avoid spending too many days there. It is perfect for a short getaway but personally, I think 4 or 5 days is very ideal. Longer than that would be too long.
STAY IN ONE HOTEL
Or two maximum, if you are about to stay for 7 days. The reason is, it is not easy to get to another hotel. The transfer is very expensive in Maldives.
BE PREPARED FOR A LUXURY VACATION
Of course, you can go on a budget trip to Maldives. But in my opinion, you might miss out the most important (and beautiful) aspects of Maldives by choosing so. Basically, what sets Maldives apart from other tropical islands such as Pulo Cinta or Bali is its luxury. So go splurge!
AIRPORT TRANSFER IS EXPENSIVE
Airport transfer in Maldives is expensive. You will arrive at Male, the capital of Maldives. Depending on your hotel, you might reach there by speedboat or seaplane. Speed boat transfer costs from USD 50 to USD 200 per pax round trip. Sea plane costs USD 350 to USD 450 round trip per person.
FOOD CHOICES ARE LIMITED
Again, apart from nature (which is excessively gorgeous), there is not much of a choice in everything here – including food. Ordering food can be expensive – so you might want to book a hotel that includes meals and drinks during your stay.
CONSIDER THE DETAILS OF YOUR ACTIVITIES
Certain activities such as whale shark watching are located at specific location – so you might want to consider how long it is to reach there. Most people won’t stand a five-hours boat ride per way.
I hope this article is useful to prepare your trip to Maldives!
