INTERIOR HACKS: ONE ELEMENT THAT WILL MAKE YOUR HOUSE LOOKS ELEGANT

June 25, 2017

Even though it takes a lot of time, effort, and of course, money to revamp my house, to be honest, I had so much fun – probably even more than the time I planned my wedding. For wedding planning, you really have to consider a lot of things: from your convenience to aesthetics, from your needs to your guests’ needs to your family’s needs – so it was more headache.

But when I designed my new house, it was my playground. No corner is too boring to explore. And if you happen to miss it, here’s the video of my house tour.

Because everyone has been throwing tons of questions about interior designs, I’m thinking to share my interior tips and hacks every now and then. Today, I’ll be starting from my first and biggest interior hacks ever: the one element that will automatically make your house look elegant – Marbles.

MARBLES AS KITCHEN COUNTERTOP

I always love marbles. I think they work every single time. So firstly, I suggested modern kitchen look with a marble countertop. I personally think marble and kitchen is a thing – and it is fantastic. The kitchen automatically feels super modern and most importantly, marbles are very easy to clean.

To balance it out, I paired the marble with a thick wood countertop. It wasn’t a common pair in conventional houses, but thanks to Pinterest (yay, the internet!) I am happy to say that marble and wood in the kitchen are the perfect pairs.

I understand that sometimes marbles can seem to be a bit cold, so a little rustic wood is excellent to balance them all out and add just the right amount of warmth and texture.

In addition to using marble as my countertop, I also use marbles attached to the wall above my sink. It gives a sleek look that nicely balances out the white wood cabinetry – and again, it is super easy to clean out the stains from washing the dishes.

TYPES OF MARBLES

Mainly there are two types of finish in terms of marbles – and before you choose them randomly, I suggest you do some extended research about the maintenance. But, here are my tip-of-the-iceberg knowledge about marbles:

HONED FINISH – Honed marble doesn’t show scratches as much, but it has a soft, matte finish that appears as a little less bright. It is also more susceptible to staining as the pores are open. This is why every stain should be washed out immediately. Sealing is, therefore, the solution.

POLISHED FINISH – Polished marble is shiny and doesn’t stain easily – but, it can scratch and etch. Also, they are not as durable as honed finish and will be worn down in time.

If you seal the marble professionally at the beginning, the chances of you to stain your marble will be down to the minimum. To clean it out, I only use warm water and dish soap sprayed onto the marble and it works perfectly. For stains, I mix baking soda and water into a paste and leave it overnight.

But overall, marble has been my favorite interior hacks at all time. It gives an instant boost of elegance and chic to your house.
