February is here, and rainy day is slowly showing up! The past few months have been so hectic and stressful for me. I decided to take the first few months to do a brainstorming and planning session with Irene (my partner) to get ready for the crazy year that’s ahead of us. I want this year to be the year of big changes & happy moments! There’s going to be a lot of things happening this year that I’m really excited about. But in this article, I’m going to discuss about my wedding preparation!

I feel so depressed for the first month because of all the crazy wedding preps. Now I really understand why some people cancel their marriage just few moments before the big day. To be completely honest, it hasn’t been an easy journey for the both us. I experience a lot of disagreements with Kalvin because we have different tastes and preferences. I began to discover things that we haven’t overcome before when we were dating. But I am really grateful that both of us share the same value. Since we studied the bible, we are urged to change our character to what God wants. So every time we have struggles, those are the values that we keep being reminded about. We have to keep ourself away from our sinful nature such as selfishness, bitterness, and arrogance. Instead of relying on ourselves, we trust everything in God’s hand. We believe He is always here with us in every decision we make.

Despite all of the differences, it has been a really good experience for us. We get to know each other better through something that we never experience before. We try our best to make sure that we handle problems the right way. We pray together in every step we make. I am really grateful for this because that makes us even closer everyday.

As a woman, I want everything to be perfect. But I realise that is one big mistake that I made. My mind began to focus on the wrong things. I always worried about my guests, about how they will feel, how to make them happy, what they think about the food, entertainment, decoration and many more. Yes, these things are important, but that is not the main priority. The most important thing is the relationship between Kalvin & I. It is going to be a very important day for us. It is the time to feel happy and cherish each other’s companion. Marriage is just the beginning of our story. The person whom I used to see as my boyfriend will now become my husband, someone whom I will spend the rest of my life with. Marriage has to be lifelong, and to one person, because it is a holy icon of the relationship between God and his people. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband” (Eph 5). “Herefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Mark 10:9).

I am not going to remember how my wedding cake looks like. I am not going to remember the food that my guests eat. I would be too busy to remember those small details. But one thing that I know. My true friends will enjoy the moment no matter how the wedding party will turn out. They will enjoy it not because of the great entertainment/food/decoration, but because they are purely joyful to celebrate my Big Day. My true friends will feel happy for me no matter what the circumstances are.

If there is one thing that 2016 is about, is definitely about making memories and spending time with people who matters the most. People who can enjoy every single second to create unforgettable moments together.
